Drummer the expanse books
That particular uniform features four expanding pockets. I recently finished making a Star Trek: Enterprise jumpsuit for my husband using the Bad Wolf Costumes pattern and its extensive instructions. I concluded that they were constructed very similarly to expanding pockets – something I had a lot of recent experience making. This uniform features very similar gussets and gave be a goof place to start. To plan out the back gussets, I examined a US Army ACU blouse. I extended the princess seam lines all the way to the hem, staying parallel to the center front.
I went back to my pattern and laid out the torso and pants pieces matching the center front, adding the measured amount of space between them. The muslin made from my body block with princess seams added and waist marked with Sharpie. I tried both on and measured the space between them to see how much room I needed to add.
DRUMMER THE EXPANSE BOOKS HOW TO
I copied the torso block and redrafted it with princess seams instead of darts – still following instructions from The Costume Technician’s Handbook I wasn’t sure how to combine the top and bottom pieces to form a jumpsuit, so I kind of made it up as I went along. I added seam allowances and made a muslin from the body block and pants block. While I highly recommend this book, there are numerous other books and websites with instructions for how to draft various pattern blocks from measurements. I followed similar instructions to draft a pants block. I followed the instructions in The Costume Technician’s Handbook to take measurements of my torso and draft a basic body block. We got even better shots of them in Season 3.Īs with most patterns, this one started with my body block. You can see the back gussets on either side of the Tycho logo. I decided the best way to proceed was to draft my own pattern from scratch. I played around with altering one, but scrapped that plan almost immediately. None of the commercial jumpsuit patterns I found had any of these features. Drummer’s features princess seams, piping, and gussets on the back. The basis of this and many other Expanse costumes is a fitted jumpsuit. Unfortunately, there’s not very much Expanse cosplay out there. Usually when starting a project, I like to look at what other fans have done. By the end of Season 2, I knew I wanted to cosplay as Drummer. In the books, we don’t meet Drummer until Nemesis Games, but on the show she has taken on the roles of several other characters, beginning with engineer Sam Rosenberg. She’s a Belter, incredibly loyal, and takes no one’s shit. Camina Drummer serves as Fred Johnson’s 2nd in command and security head on Tycho Station. Near the end of Season 1, we met one of my favorite characters: Drummer, played by Cara Gee. I watched the first episode online before it premiered on Syfy and was hooked. Carrying the hopes of every Belter who simply wants to live in peace, Camina is left with no choice but to forge ahead, whatever the consequences.Guys, I love The Expanse.

Whereas Holden's Rocinante crew are compelled to fight by moral obligation and necessity (or in Amos' case, money), Drummer has far more to lose by waging war. Yet with every blow she takes, Drummer stands up stronger each time, culminating in The Expanse season 6, episode 4 ("Redoubt") where Josep's gruesomely amateurish amputation inspires Captain Drummer to bravely declare open opposition against the Free Navy. Branded a traitor and lapdog of the Inners, Drummer's remaining followers took another massive leap of faith shaking hands with Golden Bough, then launched a direct attack against one of Marco's depots, during which poor Josep brutally lost an arm.
She knowingly risked her family unit to stand against the Free Navy, losing all but two of her lovers.
By crusading against Marco Inaros, Camina Drummer is redefining what it means to be Beltalowda.
